HEI Energy is seeking to fund research to improve our characterization of potential human exposures originating directly from the onshore development of oil and natural gas from unconventional resources across oil- and natural gas-producing regions in the United States (UOGD). This solicitation includes two Requests for Applications (RFAs) for research.

HEI Energy has completed a multiyear plan for implementation of its research program. The Plan describes the program, its overall goals and expectations, and its governance structure designed to ensure high-quality and impartial research.

HEI Energy has released Communication 1, Human Exposure to Unconventional Oil and Gas Development: A Literature Survey for Research Planning. In the Communication, the HEI Energy Research Committee surveyed a wide range of evidence to summarize what we know about environmental exposures associated with unconventional oil and natural gas development in the United States and to identify needs for new, priority exposure research.

HEI Energy has released two companion reviews of the literature on potential exposures and health effects.

On July 11-12 and September 12-13, 2018, the HEI Energy Research Program held two research-planning workshops in Denver, Colorado, and Austin, Texas. Meeting attendees included HEI staff, the HEI Energy Research Committee, and a wide range of stakeholders representing local and federal government, academia, industry, and NGOs.
